Periodontitisor
loosening of the teethis a common disease, affecting more than 10%
of the world's population. It's caused by bacteria which collect between
the teeth and gums. When not removed by brushing and flossing, these bacteria
collect and form a hard, uneven surface on your teeth.
Over time, gums become red, swollen and prone
to bleeding. If left unchecked, this inflammation can destroy the fibers
that anchor your teeth to your jaw bone. Once these fibers are gone, bone
loss follows. Without fibers and bone, your teeth will become loose and
can be permanently lost.
Emdogain¨ is a revolutionary Swedish product that allows you to keep your natural teeth by reversing the effects of periodontitis. Emdogain® is unique because it utilizes a protein that induces the formation of tooth supporting structures lost to periodontal disease.
A natural tooth attachment consists of three basic elements: (1) root cementum (2) tiny fiber bundles connecting the root cementum and jaw bone, and (3) the jaw bone itself. When Emdogain® is applied to the root surface, your body begins recreating these structures, and over time, forms a new, healthy tooth attachment the same way in which your teeth were originally formed.
Patients
treated with Emdogain® often report rapid healing. The reformation
of tooth attachment and jawbone starts immediately and continues for an
extended period of time, in some cases more than a year. During this time,
you can ensure a positive and long lasting result by visiting your dental
professionals regularly and by carefully following their recommendations.
